Police say PD Vagus chased down the driver after a pursuit

A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after he was chased down by a police dog.

Wiltshire Police said the dog, called Vagus, was deployed in Swindon in the early hours of Tuesday morning following a police pursuit.

The force said the driver of a Mercedes C220, had reportedly run from officers but was found and stopped by Vagus through a move called "stand off" which sees a dog control a suspect without biting them.

The 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and on suspicion of driving without a licence, insurance and the theft of motor vehicle. He remains in custody for questioning.

The incident began on Cricklade Road at 02.35 GMT when the driver of the Mercedes allegedly failed to stop for officers and "sped off".

Vagus was deployed when the car went into St Mark's Recreation Ground and hit a tree.
