A town's main library has closed ahead of its relocation.

Reading Central Library, which first opened on Kings Road in 1985, is moving to the redesigned Civic Centre in Bridge Street.

The library shut its doors on Saturday afternoon, with services now unavailable until the new premises open in the summer. An opening date has not yet been announced.

Reading Borough Council said the move was needed because the outdated building, spread across several floors, made accessibility difficult and costly to improve. The new purpose-built library will be fully accessible.
