Plans to demolish car park and college submitted
GooglePlans to demolish a multi-storey car park and former college site in Nottingham have been submitted as efforts to redevelop the Broad Marsh area of the city continue.
Homes England, the government's housing and regeneration agency, bought the wider site, which included the NCP car park and the former Bluecoat sixth form college site on Maid Marian Way, in March 2025.
The two sites are now earmarked for demolition, clearing the way for future redevelopment - which a planning agent said included plans to realign Maid Marian Way to provide four lanes.
The agency is expected to take control of the car park in September, but no timescales for the work have been given yet.
Planning agent Chris King said: "The demolition work will be carried out in a controlled sequence to maintain safety and minimise disruption."
Homes EnglandPlans reveal the main arterial route through the city will have to close while the car park is demolished, and the Maid Marian Way route will have to be changed, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
Documents state the upper two levels of the car park over Maid Marian Way are "likely to be removed" with the road kept open, while the lower section will require a temporary closure.
King said: "With regards to the NCP car park, the future development of the area comprises the realignment of the Maid Marian Way gyratory by Nottingham City Council to provide four lanes west of the car park site.
"This work cannot be achieved with the NCP multi-storey car park (MSCP) in place; therefore demolition of the car park structure will be required."
He added after clearance and any remedial work to the highway, the road will be reopened, and demolition will continue behind hoarding and crash decks with remaining structures being reduced to ground level.
The plans are now up for consideration by Nottingham City Council.
Half of the former Broadmarsh Shopping Centre has already been demolished to make way for the Green Heart - a park which opened in October 2024.
The vision for the remaining half is for a mixed-use site, comprising more than 1,000 new homes and 20,000 square metres of retail, office and community space.
