A new learning centre is being planned for Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum.

The scheme has been backed by the Arts Council, which has given a grant of £239,922.

Museums Worcester said the money would also be used to conserve the city's art collection and to support a programme of events at the Commandery to commemorate the 375th anniversary of the Battle of Worcester.

Existing office space will be freed up to create the new centre.

Historic England said it had no objection to the scheme and that it would "enable a diversification of use of the building for public services".
