A viable device has been discovered during a security alert in west Belfast.

Police said they received a report of a suspicious object on the Divis Road area at about 10:20 GMT on Wednesday.

Ammunition technical officers attended the scene and carried out a controlled explosion on the device.

Police have appealed to anyone with any information to contact them.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, police received a report of a suspected firearm, also in west Belfast.

Officers attended the scene at Lenadoon Avenue, along with ammunition technical officers.

When the object was found, it was discovered to be a toy gun.
