A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after a death threat made on the telephone caused a school lockdown.

Dyfed-Powys Police said officers were called to Maesydderwen Comprehensive School in Ystradgynlais, Powys, on Monday when pupils and staff were "contained on the site".

The boy, who is from Pontardawe, was detained on suspicion of sending digital communications conveying threats of death or serious harm with the intent to cause fear, the force said.

No one was injured and the boy has been bailed pending further enquiries, police added.

Supt Gareth Grant thanked parents, staff and the wider community for their "support and patience".

The school remained shut on Tuesday.

"I understand this will have had a profound impact," he said.

"Our neighbourhood officers will maintain a local presence for reassurance, and we will continue to work with our local secondary schools, and partners, to ensure our local community is supported."
