Care home celebrates 'cherished' worker, 83

A care home has honoured a "cherished" employee who has retired at 83.

Irene Woods worked at Montgomery House in Shrewsbury for 10 years - working 12 hours shifts right up until her retirement. Coverage Care, the company that runs the home, said she was "dedicated" and beloved".

"We have been blessed to have Irene working here at Montgomery House," said Rhea Paller, home manager. The firm threw Ms Woods a retirement party to mark her leaving.

Ms Woods said the decision to leave came after she decided to start slowing down.

"Her dedication and commitment are inspiring to everyone, and she will be sorely missed," the home manager said.

Coverage Care said Ms Woods had a "warm and joyful" retirement party surrounded by colleagues, residents, and friends - many of them were people she had supported through her career.

Chief executive Debbie Price said Irene was "a truly remarkable lady."

Montgomery House has 90 bedrooms and a purpose-built nursing home. Care there varies from general nursing, dementia nursing and respite care.
