Wolverhampton Racecourse is set to host what organisers claim is the UK's first combined horse and greyhound racing event.

The greyhound facility, which sits inside the horseracing venue, opened in September with capacity for up to 25,000 spectators.

Seven horses will compete in the £60,000 Lady Wulfruna Stakes on 7 March, followed by a 12-race greyhound card in the evening, according to organisers.

"It's fantastic to have the opportunity to showcase both disciplines on one day, and we're expecting a bumper turnout for what will be a great event," Chris Black, general manager at Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium, said.

Arena Racing Company (ARC), which runs the course, said it was the first brand-new greyhound racing venue to open in more than a decade.

It also operated Perry Barr Greyhound Stadium before it closed in 2025 with operations moving to Wolverhampton.

"Tapping into Wolverhampton Racecourse's existing customer base and engaging more people with greyhound racing has always been a key part of our strategy," Black said.

"Just like racehorses, greyhounds adore their racing.

"The sport facilitates an opportunity for them to fulfil their primary instinct, before resting their paws on the sofa in retirement, which we're proud to support in partnership with our homing partners."

The combined event coincides with greyhound racing's centenary year, with celebrations due to take place at the course on the anniversary in July, ARC said.
