Man appears in court after woman drowns

A man accused of murdering a 44-year-old woman in Oxfordshire has appeared in court.

Officers were called to Phyllis Court Drive, Henley-on-Thames, following the death of the woman on Friday at about 07:50 GMT. She was from the town and has not yet been named.

Thames Valley Police said post-mortem tests showed she died from drowning.

Nelio Gouveia, 44, of Phyllis Court Drive, has been charged with murder and appeared at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court earlier.

Gouveia is next due to appear at Oxford Crown Court on Wednesday for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

He has been remanded in custody.
