Flats proposed for Bradford listed building
LDRSPlans to convert a listed building in Bradford into one-bedroom flats have been submitted.
The property, in the city's Little Germany area, dates back to 1864 and was originally used as commercial space during the district's thriving wool and textile era.
Developer Mabs Hussain said the 16 proposed apartments on Currer Street will fill a building left vacant for two years and would help "secure a viable future" for the property.
"The scheme will contribute to a mixed and balanced city centre community and increase footfall to support local services and businesses," they added.
The four-storey building was designed by Bradford architect Eli Milnes and has a palazzo style seen in several Victorian buildings in the city, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The planning application said: "Internally, the building has been subject to modern office fit-outs and no historic internal features of significance remain.
"Prolonged vacancy presents a risk to the maintenance and long-term preservation of the listed building."
Referring to the area's past, the application added: "Buildings within Little Germany were constructed to serve commercial and mercantile purposes, often incorporating offices, warehouses, and showrooms.
"13 Currer Street reflects this period of prosperity and urban development and contributes to the understanding of Bradford's commercial history and European trading connections."
Bradford Council's decision on the application is expected in April.
