A tapestry celebrating Bradford's rich textile heritage is being unveiled at the city's cathedral in the final event of the church's contribution to UK City of Culture 2025.

The artwork is the culmination of the Weaving Stories project, which has brought together tales of the city's wool trade.

The cathedral invited local communities and visitors to co-create the piece using a loom installation, where everyone was invited to add a line of material to the woven tapestry.

The finished work will be unveiled at an event later featuring talks from artists involved in the project and the cathedral staff.

Speaking at the launch of the project, The Rev Canon Ned Lunn, canon for intercultural mission and the arts at Bradford Cathedral, said: "One of the major things of the UK's City of Culture is to look for legacy, and we are wanting to create a legacy piece, a tapestry which is made by the people of Bradford for the people of Bradford."

The project, which was funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund, involved contributions from across the city's textile community.

The Bradford Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers gave advice on weaving processes, and spun and dyed the wool used in the tapestry.

Wool processing business Howarth Scouring gave the fleeces for free, and the West Riding Stone Carving Association made Yorkshire stone loom weights, which are part of the final artwork.

The woven artwork was led by Shaeron Caton-Rose, a local visual artist.

The textile is accompanied by a sound tapestry compiled by the sound artist Ellen Sargen.

The clips in the sound tapestry were drawn from the people of Bradford, sharing how and why they came here.

The completed work will be on display in the cathedral's south ambulatory.
