The closures on Linthorpe Road are off peak to minimise disruption

Road resurfacing work has been delayed due to vehicles parked along a stretch subject to overnight closures.

The work to remove a cycle route and resurface Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, has been scheduled to be carried out between 19:30 and 00:30 GMT on weekdays throughout most of March to keep disruption to a minimum.

However, the council said some cars and vehicles have been left in parking bays and on the carriageway which has led to some delays.

Residents and businesses have been warned they face fixed penalty notices if they disregard the suspension.

Signed diversions between Borough Road and Ayresome Street are in place during the works, which include laying of a new surface and installing associated road markings and traffic signals.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: "These closures are unavoidable to allow us to complete the final elements of these works and are being done off-peak to reduce disruption.

"We urge residents and local businesses to keep the road clear of vehicles during the works so that resurfacing can be completed on schedule and minimise any further delays."
