Major revamp work at pottery museum to begin
BBCMajor work to transform a city's museum is to begin in December.
Plans drawn up for the Potteries Art Gallery and Museum last year include a new entrance, an artist-in-residence room, increased storage capacity and a new location for the cafe and terraced area.
The Stoke-on-Trent site will partially close from 8 December, before a full closure from 20 December to March 2026. The partial closure would allow Christmas events to continue as well as others.
The revamp is possible after £5m was awarded for the work by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and Arts Council England.
Friday evening events and Sunday afternoon talks will continue during the partial closure.
During the full closure, structural and safety work will be completed.
Once these are completed, the site will open fully although construction work will contiue.
During the closure the Gladstone Pottery Museum will remain open to allow visitors to enjoy museum attractions.
There will be a programme of events and activities running at Gladstone, as well as other venues across the city.
