Police said they were alerted to the burglary in the early hours of Friday morning

Burglars targeted a convenience store in the Staffordshire Moorlands overnight, snatching cash and loading stolen goods into a car.

The Staffordshire force said officers were alerted at about 02:20 GMT to a break-in at the Morrisons Daily on High Lane in Brown Edge, which is referred to locally as "Keith's shop".

Police said the offenders forced their way into the premises, and added that a man wearing a balaclava was seen loading goods into the boot of a dark-coloured vehicle.

The break-in follows two incidents in north Staffordshire in January in which cash machines were ripped from supermarkets.

On Friday, the suspects had left the area before officers arrived, a force spokesperson said.
