Drivers on part of the M4 are experiencing severe delays after a multi-vehicle crash which led to a fire.

National Highways said two out of three lanes on the M4 eastbound, between J17 (Chippenham) and J16 (Swindon) in Wiltshire, have reopened after the crash which happened on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash and to the single vehicle that caught on fire at about 14:15 GMT, the roads agency added.

It added there were delays of up to two hours, with about eight miles (12.8km) of queuing traffic, back to J17.

Emergency resurfacing of the M4 is currently under way, and drivers are being urged to plan ahead and allow extra journey time.

Wiltshire Police has been approached for comment.
