Tregenna Lea site manager Chris Jones said the focus at the site was on "quality not quantity"

A building site boss has won a national award for his work at the Cornish development.

Chris Jones, site manager at Tregenna Lea where about 100 homes are being constructed by Robertson Developments in Camborne, won the supreme prize in the small builder category at the National House Building Council Pride in Job Awards.

Judges said Jones had demonstrated how taking care to finish off details could "hugely enhance the quality feel of a home" and described him as an "inspiration".

Jones said his team was "focused on quality not quantity" and the approach had helped sell some of the homes.

Features at the site include hand-built Cornish hedges and curved walls, solar panels on some of the roofs and a large playground.

Jones said while some of the finishing touches to the properties added expense to the build, it was something the developers felt was important for the site.

"We pride ourselves in attention to detail and care," he said.

"We've produced some really, really outstanding houses."

About 70 homes have been built at the site so far and residents said the quality of construction team's work and how they operated was clear to see.

Kevin Smitheram, who was one of the first people to move to the estate three years ago, said: "It's a really well constructed house.

"The building work is still going on but I don't really hear it much and they clean the roads all the time to make sure the mud from the site is washed away."

Fellow resident Trish Bailey said the construction team were "good, clean and tidy".

"I've lived in several new build homes and I've never been in one where they're so quiet and considerate," she added.
