A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed to death in Manchester.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene after police responded to a "disturbance" on Dorking Avenue in the Newton Heath area of the city at about 02:00 BST.

A 25-year-old man was being questioned while another man, 61 and woman, 38, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, Greater Manchester Police said.

The force appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

"Formal identification has not yet been conducted, but the family have been made aware and are being supported."
