Two men, aged 43 and 44, from Blackburn, were arrested on Monday on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody.
Det Insp Pete Macdonald said: "First and foremost, my thoughts are with this man's loved ones at this incredibly distressing time.
"Our investigation is very much in its early stages. While we have made two arrests, our inquiries are very much ongoing, and we are asking for the public's help.

"We would really like to speak to anyone who was in the area between 16:30 and 21:00 GMT on Friday, and who has dashcam footage or mobile footage, or who may have been a witness to this incident, to get in touch."
