Construction of the £5m mosque in Blackburn has been ongoing for a number of years

Councillors will be asked to approve changes to an entrance to a £5m landmark mosque after it was altered.

It comes after the owners submitted a request for backdated approval after changing the secondary vehicle access to the Masjid E Vali on Preston New Road.

The mosque is being built by the Issa Foundation, which is a family charity run by the EG Group founders, brothers Mohsin and Zuber Issa.

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council's planning and highways committee will be recommended to approve the change at a meeting on Thursday night.

The changes include improved access and improved visibility for traffic as well as modifications to the car parking arrangements.

A report from borough planning manager Gavin Prescott said that "construction of the development has been ongoing for a number of years" and "changes proposed under this application have already been implemented".

He added: "Members are recommended to approve this application, detailed assessment of which finds the proposed amendments to be acceptable."
