City centre paving upgrade completed
City of Wolverhampton CouncilNew paving on one of Wolverhampton's main city centre streets has been completed ahead of schedule, the council says.
The work on Dudley Street started in January, with footways and kerbing replaced to spruce up the prime retail area, councillor Qaiser Azeem said.
A further £19m is to be spent on Lichfield Street, Queen Square and Darlington Street later this year, following a similar layout to Dudley Street.
“This is one of our prime retail areas, which sees the highest footfall in the city, and it was important that we upgraded it to offer a comfortable and safe shopping environment," Mr Azeem, cabinet member for transport and green city, said.
“I’m very happy to say that the repaving works caused minimal disruption and, despite the heavy rain we have experienced this year, they were completed two weeks ahead of schedule."
