A charity which provides wellness and sensory services for adults and children with additional needs has started a fundraising appeal, as it faces an "imminent threat of closure".

Twinkle House, on Gorsey Place, Skelmersdale, Lancashire, said without "significant external support" it will be forced to close its doors.

Since it opened in 2004, it has provided an inclusive space which includes sensory rooms, soft play and a hydrotherapy pool.

Twinkle House has appealed for donations, and said it hoped people would stand with the charity during its "time of need".

The charity said: "We provide a uniquely safe and sensory-adapted environment for children and vulnerable adults with a wide range of needs, many of whom have nowhere else to go.

"Families depend on us not just for respite and support, but for connection, stability and community.

"Our services reduce pressure on schools, health services and local authorities, delivering measurable social impact," it added.

"The loss of Twinkle House would leave a gap that cannot be filled by any other organisation in the area."
