Bursaries open for help with sports memberships
Getty ImagesChildren in part of Surrey can soon apply for a bursary to help pay for sports club memberships, subscriptions or match fees.
Epsom & Ewell Borough Council is offering up to £200 to children aged 12-15 through its Access to Activity scheme.
It is open to those who receive free school meals, or whose parents or guardians receive Universal Credit payments, or who are living or have previously lived in care.
Councillor Clive Woodbridge said: "We know that for many families, the cost of taking part in sport can be a real obstacle."
Woodbridge added: "By helping to ease financial pressures, the Access to Activity bursary can help ensure 12 to 15-year-olds can take part in a sport they enjoy, feel included and thrive.
"We encourage parents, guardians and young people to explore what's available and apply."
Applications open on 30 March and will close on 31 December, or when the funding has been fully allocated.
