Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash involving a double-decker bus and car.

Emergency services were called to the A46 Shurdington Road in Cheltenham at about 13:30 GMT on Monday after the incident, where a Stagecoach bus left the road and struck a lamp-post. One person from each vehicle was taken to hospital to be assessed, Gloucestershire Police said.

The road was closed for several hours but reopened at about 20:00, a spokesperson for Gloucestershire County Council said.

A Stagecoach spokesperson confirmed an investigation into the circumstances of the incident was under way.

National Grid (NG) engineers were sent to the scene on Monday evening to temporarily switch off the power supply while the bus was recovered and the lamp-post was fixed.

A NG spokesperson said 49 properties in Shurdington were impacted.

"We'd like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while our engineers assisted the emergency services," they added.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach said they were working closely "with authorities to understand the cause of this incident".
