A confrontation broke out after multiple vehicles were damaged in a crash on the A38 near Bristol Airport on Saturday morning, police said

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a fight which followed a multi-vehicle crash.

Avon and Somerset Police said a confrontation broke out after multiple vehicles were damaged in a crash on the A38 near Bristol Airport at about 08:25 GMT on Saturday.

Two men had to be taken to hospital, with neither believed to be in a life-threatening condition.

Five men were later arrested on the M5 northbound in Gloucestershire on suspicion of attempted murder. A sixth man was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit robbery and wounding with intent.

All of the men remain in custody, police said.

Supt Jen Appleford said: "We are aware this incident will have caused concern in our communities, but we can reassure residents we do not believe there to be any wider risk to the public as we believe those involved are known to each other, are from outside of our force area and this was a self-contained incident."

Supt Appleford said CCTV and forensic enquiries were being carried out and asked for any witnesses to speak to police.
