Owlets rescued after branch holding nest collapses

Two baby owls that were rescued after a branch supporting their nest gave way have been reunited with their family.

Wildlife Aid, an animal rescue charity in Leatherhead, checked the birds over after they were found at the base of an old beech tree in Dorking.

The landowners found the baby tawny owls next to a broken "sizable branch" that had been supporting a nest.

"Regrettably, when the branch gave way, the nest opened up, causing the doddery owlets to tumble out," the charity said.

It said the pair were the first they had dealt with this year.

The owlets have now been returned to their nest, where a third owlet was discovered, and which was made safe for the family.

A Wildlife Aid spokesperson said: "After a very brief visit to our hospital for a check-over (and) much to the owls’ feisty annoyance, the pair were cleared to be returned to their nest."
