Two jailed over father's mistaken identity killing
HandoutTwo men have been jailed for their roles in killing a father who was gunned down in a suspected case of mistaken identity.
Dale Stogden, known as Brett, was fatally shot at a bus stop in a drive-by attack in Wakefield on 12 August 2025.
Adam Ahmed, 21, and Marc Carter, 20, were each jailed for 12 years at Leeds Crown Court earlier, having been found guilty of manslaughter. They also previously admitted conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
The gunman, Leyton Davies, 28, who was found guilty of murder, will be sentenced on 15 May.
Brett's daughters Alyssa and Piper said their father was "missed every day".
In a statement, they said: "The past seven months have been a challenging time for my sister and I, after the death of our dad, Dale Stogden, known to many as Brett.
"Over the course of the trial, we have had to relive and hear the full details of what occurred on that evening of August 12 2025.
"On behalf of my sister and I, we would like to thank everyone in securing the convictions of those responsible for taking our dad away from us."
West Yorkshire PoliceAll three defendants, from Wakefield, were found guilty over their roles in Brett's killing following a two-week trial which concluded last week.
According to West Yorkshire Police, Davies, formerly of Hill Crest Avenue, fired the fatal shot from the rear passenger seat of a vehicle being driven by Ahmed, of Edgemoor Road, as it passed a bus stop close to a BP petrol station on Doncaster Road.
Carter, of Dunbar Street, was sat in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, which then sped away.
West Yorkshire Police said Brett, who was with a female friend at the time of the shooting, was killed by a single gunshot wound.
