Trio guilty of killing 'wrong man' in shooting
West Yorkshire PoliceThree men have been convicted of killing an innocent bystander at a bus stop in a drive-by shooting.
Leyton Davies, 28, was found guilty of murdering 50-year-old Dale Stogden, who was known as Brett, in Wakefield on 12 August 2025, after a two-week trial at Leeds Crown Court.
His two co-defendants, 21-year-old Adam Ahmed and 20-year-old Marc Carter, were both found guilty of manslaughter.
Police said the victim, who died in hospital shortly after he was attacked, was "likely not the intended target" of the shooting.
The force said that Davies fired the fatal shot from the rear passenger seat of a vehicle being driven by Ahmed, as it passed a bus stop close to a BP petrol station on Doncaster Road.
Carter was sat in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, which then sped away.
Det Ch Insp James Entwistle, of West Yorkshire Police, described the trio involved in the killing as "dangerous men" who were willing to use "extreme violence".
He added: "From what we now understand of this crime, it looks like Brett was not the intended target of this shooting.
"However, as was made clear throughout this trial, killing the wrong person is no defence.
"Him not being the target certainly does not take away from the grief that Brett's family and friends have suffered."
A sentencing date for Davies, of Hill Crest Avenue in Wakefield, Ahmed, of Edgemoor Road in Wakefield, and Carter, of Dunbar Street, will be fixed on Friday.
