Bayleigh Wells said the donations would help keep the dogs stimulated and cozy

A dog charity said it has been "overwhelmed" with van loads of donated bedding, food and toys.

Dogs Trust in Snetterton, Norfolk, launched an appeal in March as it was in "urgent need" of everyday items to keep the 70 dogs it cares for warm, stimulated and comfortable while they wait to be rehomed.

The charity said it had gone through bedding "much faster than usual" to keep kennels warm and dry following the winter.

Bayleigh Wells, a dog welfare assistant at the charity, said: "We were just overwhelmed by the generosity we received from the public... that will definitely keep our dogs cosy and playful for a good couple of months."

While the charity was no longer accepting donations, it said it had received items from the public and businesses including duvets from Center Parcs.

She said: "We are so grateful for everybody who donated towards our dogs. We got a load of food, bedding, toys. We appealed mostly for our larger dogs for bigger toys, bigger dog beds and we were just overwhelmed by the generosity we received from the public."

Some dogs have been at the Snetterton kennels for more than 18 months

The charity has about 70 dogs in its kennels with some of the animals being in its care for more than 18 months.

Wells said: "All of them, like humans, have their own unique personalities, they are all so great... but they don't have a family to share it with.

"The donations really help them feel cozy and have a good time with toys and bedding while they are spending time in our care.

"Donations are a big help to keep them stimulated and keep them having a nice life... while waiting for their forever homes."
