Shaun Davies said Madeley Court Hotel would be 'returned to the community'

A hotel which was being used to house asylum seekers will close in "a matter of weeks," an MP has said.

Shaun Davies, who represents Telford, said he had been raising the issue of the town's Madeley Court Hotel "relentlessly" since becoming an MP in 2024.

In a statement on social media he said: "Hotels are simply not the right place to house people in the asylum system."

The Home Office has said it is unlikely to comment on the status of the hotel.

Davies said the use of the hotel was "a legacy of the previous Conservative government's failed asylum policy, which left people stuck in hotel accommodation because of a broken system".

He added: "This decision is about fairness, fairness to Telford residents who want their hotel back, and fairness to the people housed there."

The Labour MP said he hoped the hotel would now be "returned to the community".
