A 12-year-old boy has been charged with sexual assault after a woman was found seriously injured at an address in Birmingham.

The woman, in her 60s, was discovered in Kellett Road at about 18:15 GMT on 18 March. She remains in a serious condition in hospital.

The 12-year-old boy was arrested and charged with wounding and sexual assault. He has also been charged with a separate theft matter and intentional strangulation after a woman was confronted in the street last month, West Midlands Police said.

The boy, who cannot be named due to his age, has been remanded to appear before Birmingham Youth Court on Tuesday.

"Our enquiries remain ongoing, but we understand how concerning this will be within the community," a spokesperson for the force said.

"Our officers will be continuing to provide reassurance in the local area."
