Part of Beverley Road in Hull has been closed due to an ongoing police incident

A main road into Hull has been closed in both directions due to an ongoing police incident.

Beverley Road was closed at about 23:30 GMT between the junctions for De Grey Street and Queens Road, with police and other emergency services at the scene.

Humberside Police advised motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area.

Stagecoach Hull has informed passengers that its Beverley Road services would be diverting down Spring Bank, Princes Avenue, Newland Avenue, Cottingham Road and back onto Beverley Road "until further notice".

Reporting from the scene for BBC Radio Humberside, Sally Fairfax said there were eight or nine police vehicles between both junctions on Beverley Road.

"The street is completely closed from the top of De Grey Street, the junction with Beverley Road, all the way up to the junction with Queens Road," she said.

She added the road closure was affecting some parents taking their children to Stepney Primary School.
