Police cordoned off an area of the Forest Recreation Ground following a report of sexual assault

Police have cordoned off a footpath in a park in Nottingham following reports that a man seriously sexually assaulted a woman.

Nottinghamshire Police said a member of the public found the distressed woman, in her 30s, at the Forest Recreation Ground on Monday at 19:56 GMT.

Officers remained at the cordon on Tuesday morning.

Det Ch Insp Rob Routledge, of the force's public protection unit, said: "Specially trained officers are supporting the victim as our inquiries continue, and every effort is being made to locate the person responsible."

He said uniformed colleagues in the neighbourhood team had increased reassurance patrols in the area.

"If anyone has any concerns, we'd encourage them to approach one of our officers," he added.
