A man has been arrested after people were threatened with a knife in Derby city centre, police said.

Derbyshire Police said CCTV operators spotted a man, believed to have a knife, running away from an incident in Iron Gate and alerted officers just after midnight on Saturday.

Officers on patrol detained the suspect in The Strand, and a knife, which had been discarded in a shop doorway in Sadler Gate, was found by staff from a nearby pub, the force said.

A man in his 20s, from Uttoxeter, in Staffordshire, was arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife, and taken into police custody. No-one was injured.
