Police were called to Granby Street in Leicester after a man was stabbed

A 19-year-old man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in Leicester city centre.

Leicestershire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service were called to reports of a stabbing in Granby Street just after 13:00 GMT.

The force said the victim had been taken to hospital for treatment but gave no further update on his condition.

No arrests have yet been made and inquiries to establish "the circumstances of what happened are continuing," officers said.

Insp Ryan Ludlam, commander for the Central Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area, said: "Officers will remain in the area both to carry out further inquiries and provide reassurance.

"Given this incident happened in a busy part of the city, I'm sure there will be people who can help our investigation.

"I'd urge any witnesses – including anyone who captured the incident on a mobile phone or dashcam – to come forward."
