New lease for recycling and waste disposal site
SCASA recycling point on the Isle of Man has been granted a new 25-year lease, taking effect in April 2026.
The Southern Civic Amenity Site (SCAS) which is funded by contributions from each of the five local authorities it covers, announced it had been given the lease from Port St Mary Commissioners.
Run by a board of representatives on three-year terms, SCAS covers the local authorities of Castletown, Arbory & Rushen, Malew, Port Erin and Port St Mary.
Improvements on the area's entrance, layout and security were now planned for the site, which will remain in its current location on Castletown Road, Port St Mary.
'Very well used'
Mike Norrey, chairman of Southern Civic Amenity Site Board said: "We are delighted to have reached an agreement to retain the site at its current location.
"The site is the oldest on the Island and has seen some major changes over the recent years to improve its service offering to users.
"This is an opportunity to bring in a nominal increase for the annual rent."
The increase forms part of the overall running of the wastage site, a figure contributed towards by the five local authorities under its jurisdiction.
On top of other amendments to the site, Mr Norrey said he hoped to start work on improving the side entrance - making it easier for cars to enter and exit along with a replacement weighbridge for commercial vehicles.
Chairwoman of Port St Mary Commissioners, Jean Teare called it "great news".
"The site is very well used and we are looking forward to seeing further improvements in the not too distant future."
