An 18-year-old man has died after suffering serious injuries when he was hit by a private hire car in Leeds.

Owen Ford was a pedestrian when he was hit by a silver Toyota Prius being driven on Woodhouse Lane at about 00:15 GMT on 5 March, according to West Yorkshire Police.

He was taken to hospital for treatment where he died of his injuries on Saturday, a force spokesperson said.

The driver of the car, a 55-year-old man from Leeds, who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving, had since been bailed pending further inquiries, they added.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police's major collision inquiry team were keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, or the circumstances leading up to it, the spokesperson said.

Anyone with relevant dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage was also asked to get in touch.
