Tax hike and three-weekly bin collections approved
BBCCouncil tax is set to rise by 4.99% and rubbish across Wiltshire will be collected every three weeks.
Wiltshire Council approved the changes, which will see an average Band D household paying about £7.84 more per month, at a budget meeting earlier.
Under the changes, food waste will be collected weekly, recycling every two weeks and residual waste every three weeks.
A council spokesperson said councillors approved a 2.99% general tax increase, plus a 2% Adult Social Care levy to help fund "vital support" in that area.
There are also plans to increase charges for parking on Sundays, with a consultation set to take place soon.
At the moment motorists are charged for parking between 08:00 and 18:00, but the proposal is to extend this to 07:00 to 19:00.
Councillors also approved plans to investigate introducing a lane rental scheme. This involves charging utilities when they want to carry out roadworks on a main road.
It is hoped that the scheme will raise money and encourage companies to work together so there will not be as many works taking place across the county at different times.
