Fine for man who damaged anti-vandalism mural

A 19-year-old has been fined £500 after pleading guilty to criminal damage over grey paint being splashed over a colourful mural created to discourage vandalism.

Jon Clifton, from Nine Elms, Swindon, appeared at the town's magistrates court on 27 November.

The mural had been created on a block of toilets in Royal Wootton Bassett by schoolchildren and volunteers after the block had previously been vandalised.

It was hoped this would prevent further damage, but the paint appeared on it less than a week after the artwork was unveiled.
