Highland Council has said anti-social behaviour and vandalism had badly damaged public toilets in Aviemore.

Police Scotland said there were "several incidents" between July and November this year at the block on Grampian Road.

Damage has included lights being broken, toilet roll holders being ripped off walls and flooding.

Highland Council said the building would reopen once it was safe to do so.

A Highland Council spokesperson said: "The Aviemore public convenience is currently closed due to vandalism to the plumbing system, including the pipework and taps, which has caused severe flooding.

"The building is being assessed for damage and required repairs and will reopen once safe for public use."

They added: "Vandalism is a total waste of local taxpayers' money and diverts much-stretched resources from Council works and services."
