Incoming chair calls for island togetherness
BBCA newly appointed committee chair has called for togetherness of communities.
Jeannie Cameron, Chair of the Policy & Finance Committee in Alderney, has been voted in as Bill Abel's successor for 2026. She will assume the role with immediate effect after Abel's decision not to seek re-election.
The States of Alderney said the main aim of the role was to progress work on reform, and ensure the government focused on its contribution to major projects.
Cameron said Alderney needed "leadership that brings people together, not further apart, and because good governance, sound financial management, and a respectful working culture are essential if we are to serve the island well".
Cameron will also continue to serve on the Economic Development Committee.
Chairs of the other States committees will remain the same with Iain MacFarlane Chair of the General Services Committee, Stuart Clark Chair of the Economic Development Committee and Kevin Gentle Chair of the Building Development Control Committee.
Cameron thanked Abel "who stood up to do the job last year when no-one else wanted to do it, and he has kept the ship on course through this last year and should be praised for his efforts in a year which not only focused on a wealth of issues, but also required additional commitment to counsel new members to learn the ropes and the processes and procedures of the States".
