Survey to detail airport height profile
BBCA survey is being carried out at Alderney Airport to create a height profile of the land and all main structures.
If proposals are approved by Guernsey's Policy & Resources Committee the reconstruction of the main asphalt runway could begin in 2027.
According to Guernsey Ports, design work is already underway with a view to appointing a contractor this year.
The topographical survey begins on Tuesday and will take up to two weeks to provide critical measurements for informing the work.
Project manager Susanna Durman said carrying out the survey now will help the project move forward: "The topographical survey will provide key information required to complete the design phase of the project.
"It will help define the requirements to address the profile of the runway, and ensuring the aerodrome overall is compliant with regulatory standards, as required by the local aviation regulator," she said.
"By capturing this data now, we will be able to continue progressing the design ahead of the appointment of the construction contractor, later this year.
"That should help to expedite the delivery of the project in 2027."
The proposed works at Alderney Airport will see the asphalt runway widened from 18m (59ft) to 23m (75ft), to meet minimum aerodrome design standards.
