Samuel Jackson was jailed for 14 years and four months at Cambridge Crown Court

A man who stabbed a woman multiple times, fled out of a bathroom window and made it to an airport runway, has been jailed.

Police said Samuel Jackson attacked the 42-year-old victim at the flat in Kathleen Elliott Way in Cambridge on 26 May.

The 35-year-old, of Harvest Road in Watton, Norfolk, admitted assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent. However, he was found not guilty of attempted murder - a more serious charge - after a five-day trial at Cambridge Crown Court.

He was jailed for 14 years and four months at the same court on 29 January.

Cambridgeshire Police said Jackson admitted to having smoked crack cocaine, before visiting the woman at her home and then drinking together.

He emerged from the kitchen armed with a knife and attacked her, police added.

She managed to make her way outside of the property, with emergency services arriving later. Medical staff told her she was lucky to survive.

Following the attack, police said Jackson fled the flat through a bathroom window before garden-hopping across neighbouring properties and running towards Cambridge City Airport, where he was stopped by workers on the runway.

Det Con George McCready said: "This was a brutal and completely unprovoked attack on a woman who believed Jackson was her friend.

"Jackson's behaviour that morning was violent and unpredictable and this sentence reflects the severity of the harm he caused."
