A man has pleaded guilty to murdering a father-of-eight who was stabbed several times at a hostel in Cambridge.

Liam Rush, 31, attacked Granville Graham, 58, in his bedroom at the hostel where they lived on Chesterton Road, in the early hours of 25 February last year.

Appearing at Peterborough Crown Court, Rush admitted the killing and will be sentenced on 8 July.

Graham's family said his death "left a hole in our hearts and the hearts of communities in Cambridge, London and Jamaica".

Cambridgeshire Police said Rush left the scene after the incident, but eight hours later arrived at Parkside Police Station to hand himself in.

Graham had nine sisters, one brother, eight children, one grandchild and "countless family and friends who loved him dearly", his family said, in a tribute released through Cambridgeshire Police.

"Granville, talented barber and singer, was a special soul with an infectious, happy-go-lucky spirit that brightened the lives of everyone around him," it continued.

"Known for his incredible sense of humour, he could effortlessly make others laugh.

"His selflessness and willingness to help anyone in need made him a true source of support for many."

Det Insp Caeva Taylor, from the major crime unit, added: "This was a tragic and deeply distressing incident. Our thoughts remain with Granville's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."
