People have been warned localised flooding is an "ongoing risk" as heavy rain batters the Channel Islands.

Jersey's government said 20 to 30mm (0.8 to 1.2 inches) of rain was expected throughout the day and floods had been reported in several areas of the island.

Traffic and Highways Services in Guernsey said flooding had also impacted roads with an emergency closures on La Route des Capelles, Route des Coutanchez and Verte Rue in St Sampson.

Jersey Met's forecast said further rainfall on Wednesday could be "heavy and persistent" across the Channel Islands with another 10mm (0.4 inches) possible overnight.

Jersey's Infrastructure & Environment (I&E) department advised people to travel with caution due to flooding and standing water on the roads.

"Teams from I&E are working to clear debris and make the roads safe," it added.

The department also advised people to check for blocked drains at their properties.

In Guernsey, the government said the road closure in St Sampson would be in place "until further notice".

"La Route des Capelles, Verte Rue and Route des Coutanchez in St Sampson has been closed between Grow Limited and The Guernsey Institute Coutanchez Campus due to flooding following heavy rain," a Facebook post added.

'Please take care'

Jersey Police said it had received reports a section of Trinity Hill near Oak Tree Gardens had lifted due to the adverse weather conditions.

A police spokesperson said: "The Parish of St Helier has been notified and will be attending to assess.

"Please take care whilst travelling along this section of road."

Mist and fog has also been causing disruption on the island, with Jersey Airport saying some flights might be delayed.

A post on its Facebook page said: "With high passenger volumes expected, the terminal may be busier than usual.

"Please check directly with your airline for the latest flight updates."
