Tree surgeons felled the unstable tree near the hospital

A hospital's outpatients had to be moved to another part of the building after it was feared an unstable tree could fall and crash into the wall.

The tree in Parade Gardens, opposite Jersey General Hospital in St Helier, had developed a "significant crack", which created an "immediate risk" of falling towards the hospital on Monday night.

Tree surgeons were able to stabilise the tree before safely dismantling and felling it using specialist equipment.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service also worked with hospital staff to take precautionary measures, which included moving patients in the waiting area and those seated near windows in the triage area further inside the department.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service and the States of Jersey Police closed the road

The fire service and States of Jersey Police established a cordon and closed a road outside the hospital.

The works were completed early the next morning and the area made safe, with the road reopening at about 04:30 BST on Tuesday.
