Troubled splash park to reopen with new surface
Swindon Borough CouncilA troubled £475,000 water park has moved a step closer to reopening after a new surface was laid.
Swindon Borough Council said the splash park at Coate Water Country Park is on track to reopen at the end of May, after a break in the wet weather allowed the surface to be laid.
The facility, opened in August 2024, has experienced problems, with several unexpected closures due to issues with the flooring and the concrete underneath.
Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, cabinet member for planning and placemaking at the borough council, said: "I can't wait to welcome families back to this brilliant play area."
Swindon Borough Council"People love the splash park and for good reason! I'm happy to see it get fully resurfaced ready for the warmer months," she added.
The council added that the work had been carried out at no cost to it, with the park still under warranty.
The park's water features and games are currently in storage but will be reinstalled ahead of the re-opening.
Swindon Borough CouncilThe park's opening was delayed in July 2024, due to materials being delayed at customs.
It then closed in June 2025 for emergency repairs when tiles became loose when the concrete underneath failed and needed to be re-secured.
Families were left frustrated again in July, when the park was once again forced to close for further repairs to the flooring.
