An Albanian man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of another man who was shot in the head at point-blank range.

Hemawand Ali Hussain was found dead in a derelict house on Charterhouse Street, Hartlepool, on 14 September 2019 and four men have already been jailed over his death.

Sajmir Dodoveci, 40, of no fixed abode, appeared at Teesside Crown Court via videolink from Holme House Prison and pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder.

He was extradited to the UK after being detained at a train station in Brussels on 23 December.

A 34-year-old man was also detained in Belgium in February 2024, and on 20 January this a 26-year-old man was arrested in Albania, both in connection with Hussein's death.

Cleveland Police said it was working with the relevant authorities to make arrangements for both to be extradited.

While those arrangements continue, a trial date is yet to be confirmed and Dodoveci remains in custody.
