Police have issued a fresh warning to drivers about parking in the Peak District after enforcement action was taken over the weekend.

Officers from Derbyshire Police's Hope Valley beat team were called to reports of obstructive parking in the Mam Tor area on Saturday.

While on patrol on Mam Nick and Winnats Pass, near Castleton, they issued tickets to cars left along clearways or parked dangerously, including at junctions and blind bends.

In a social media post, the team advised visitors to the beauty spot to use nearby car parks and designated parking bays, warning that obstructive parking has a "significant impact" on surrounding villages, residents and local businesses.

The warning comes after officers urged drivers to park "respectfully" when visiting the Peak District on 31 December.

Problem parking has been an ongoing issue, with plans being drawn up by Derbyshire County Council last year to bring further restrictions to roads in the Castleton area.

Last month, enforcement action was taken against drivers, who had parked illegally in the Yorkshire Bridge area of Bamford, prompting police to remind motorists to "park respectfully".

Derbyshire Police was forced to close multiple roads, including Winnats Pass and Rushup Edge near Castleton, due to "selfish parking" last January.

It followed reports of about 200 parked cars blocking gritting lorries and emergency services trying to respond to an injured walker near Edale.
