Two police constables are being investigated for potential gross misconduct after alleged failures to investigate an assault connected to the suspect in the Huntingdon train attack.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is looking into Cambridgeshire Police's handling of an incident in which Ricky Butcher was injured in Fletton, Peterborough, on 27 September.

The force referred itself to the IOPC in November after reviewing prior police contact with Anthony Williams, the suspect of the Huntingdon train attack on 1 November.

Williams, 32, has been charged with 13 counts of attempted murder and remanded in custody.

A heritage railway said it was facing 2026 in a "trickier position" after a challenging Christmas.

The Nene Valley Railway, between Peterborough city centre and Stibbington, has relied heavily on festive events to boost income and keep it running all year round.

But chairman Michael Purcell told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire visitor numbers "were down compared with last year" and there had been "fewer full trains".

A "much-needed" weekly community group aimed at supporting men's mental health has started in Peterborough.

The Inspired Men Club, set up by hypnotherapist Gary Johannes, hopes to give men - from the city or wider Cambridgeshire - a safe, non-judgemental space to talk and connect with others.

"We hear the phrase all the time that men don't talk. But men do talk. There's often too much judgement and too much expectation. This space removes that," he said.

The former mayor of Peterborough and long-serving Labour councillor Alan Dowson died aged 87.

His colleagues paid tribute to the veteran, who was exposed to thermonuclear bombs as a 19-year-old during Britain's nuclear testing programme in the Pacific Ocean. Council leader Shabina Qayyum told him he "fought for justice until your dying day".

Meanwhile, Industry Minister Chris McDonald announced that National Gas would be spending £870m over five years in the region on infrastructure projects and establishing a new headquarters in Peterborough. The company, which builds and manages the country's gas infrastructure, said it would install new equipment at its existing facility in the city and create 250 jobs.

Finally, the Care Quality Commission rated Peterborough City Council's adult social care provision as good. The regulator has a new duty to assess how local authorities work with partners and support people and their carers.
