Cocaine worth €5.25m seized and two arrested

Cocaine estimated to be worth €5.25m (£4.56m) has been seized in the Republic of Ireland.

Gardai (Irish police) carried out a number of searches on vehicles and a business premises in County Monaghan on Friday.

A man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s were arrested.

The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

In a statement Gardai said the action was carried out under Operation Tara by officers from the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and was supported by the Dublin Crime Response Team.

Assistance was also provided by local units in Monaghan, the Custom Revenue Service and the Belgian Federal Maritime Police.

Operation Tara was launched in July 2021 to target drug trafficking networks involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, sale and supply of controlled drugs.
